What is the difference between Coca-Cola Consolidated and The Coca-Cola Company?

Iri from Nashville, TN

Our Answer:

Coca-Cola Consolidated is the nation's largest independent marketer, producer and distributor of Coca-Cola Company products. We also distribute Dr. Pepper and several other brands.

The Coca-Cola Company develops the soft drink products, produces the advertising and programs to support those products and sells syrup concentrate to Coca-Cola Consolidated and other bottlers. As a bottling company, we combine the concentrate with other ingredients to manufacture and package our refreshing beverages. We then use the extensive Coca-Cola Consolidated sales and delivery force to market and distribute the soft drinks to retail customers and consumers.

What is the difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke?

Will from Richmond, VA

Our Answer:

Both Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero deliver the great taste of Coca-Cola, with zero calories. The beverages have different flavor profiles, and Diet Coke is sweetened with Aspartame while Coke Zero is sweetened with a blend of Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium. If you would like more information about Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium, and other zero calorie sweeteners, here is a handy link to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) summary article.

Are the bottle caps on your products recyclable?

Sarah from Tuscaloosa, AL

Our Answer:

The closures we use on bottles are 100 percent recyclable from a technical standpoint and highly recycled. They are made from high-density materials selected for their compatibility with most recycling systems. Most recyclers use a float/sink process where PET bottles sink and the closures and labels float. For this reason, and to minimize litter, we recommend that consumers recycle their beverage bottles by putting the cap back on before placing in a recycle bin. Like the PET plastic used in our bottles, there also are end markets for the material used in the caps, such as paint pails and battery casings.
