It was another amazing Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. From honoring Gold Star Families as well as active and veteran military members, to encouraging fans to recycle through our hands-on experiences and cheering on the drivers, Coca-Cola Consolidated Teammates poured themselves into an action-packed race weekend.
We were honored to have Congressman Pat Harrigan and Lt. General Ken Tovo join us as the Honorary Starter and Honorary Race Director for the race.
In addition to serving veterans and the community, we’re committed to helping create a more sustainable future. As part of our Refresh. Recycle. Renew. program, we helped design and provide new signage for all the recycling and trash containers and provided 55 new empty syrup barrels to the Charlotte Motor Speedway that were used as recycling containers and waste bins throughout the property.
We were also onsite in the Fan Zone all weekend, encouraging fans to recycle. Fans had the opportunity to take selfies, pledging to recycle while at the Speedway, and send the photos to be shown on the Megatron screen. Staff were also walking around the fan zone, with backpacks collecting bottles and cans from the fans.
What’s even more, we partnered with Every Can Counts to create a sustainable Pixel Can art “canstallation” — made entirely from recycled aluminum cans! Fans loved stopping by to see the installation in progress and contribute to the process by recycling their aluminum cans. The thousands of discarded bottles and cans collected at the event venue and used for the “canstallation” will then be remade into new bottles and cans.
In the weeks leading up to the Coca-Cola 600, Coke Consolidated volunteers joined with Habitat for Humanity, NASCAR and the Charlotte Motor Speedway to build a new home for a local veteran.
Leaders from Coke Consolidated, The Coca-Cola Company and NASCAR also participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery. The 639-acre cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400,000 servicemen and women and their families.
Thank you to all who joined us. We’re grateful we could be part of such a special day, saluting our heroes and watching an electric race.
